A Mass was held on Friday at the Catholic Church in Modesto for Suzanne Marie Yanez, 38, of Modesto. She died May 2, 2009 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice Hospice in Hughson.
Internment was at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel.
Born Sept. 2, 1970 in South Lake Tahoe, Suzanne graduated from Modesto High School and California State University, Stanislaus, where she excelled academically and socially. She graduated with honors and became an outstanding and well loved bilingual teacher. She taught third grade at Don Pedro Elementary School in Ceres. Mrs. Yanez loved her students and was excited to see them grow and develop. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, reading, puzzles, animals, and her profession. Mrs. Yanez was a member of Saint Stanislaus Parish Community.
She leaves behind her husband Polo Yanez of Modesto; her children, Miguel and Julieta of Modesto; her parents, Floyd and Paula Iverson of Modesto, and Bryon and Joan Melrose of South Lake Tahoe; her grandmother, Florence Melrose; four sisters, Chantel Smith, Janine Melrose, Johnna Switzer, and Brooke Sinogi. She was preceded in death by grandparents Thomas and Suzanne Mac Arthur.
