The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs was in charge of arrangements for William I. Gilbert, 77, of Ceres. He died of natural causes on March 29, 2004 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
Born Dec. 3, 1926, Mr. Gilbert was a native of San Francisco and lived in Ceres for 11 years. Mr. Gilbert served in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the UFCW Local $28. He spent 42 years cutting meat and retired in 1989 as a meat manager for Deluxe Foods in Aptos. Mr. Gilbert also lived in Salinas, Santa Cruz and Modesto.
Mr. Gilbert enjoyed gardening and shopping.
He leaves behind his wife, Gerry Gilbert of Ceres; three children, Bill Gilbert of Felton, Ceres Mayor DeLinda Moore, and Marty Gilbert of Scotts Valley; his brother, Richard Gilbert of Santa Cruz; and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
