Editor, Ceres Courier,
It appears that Elon Musk and President Trump are making some headway in reforming the administrative state. Some would argue that they are moving too far, too fast.
However, if the goal is to save the taxpayers $2 trillion, they might not be moving quickly enough in rooting out abuse, fraud and waste in several federal departments. Congress routinely punches through the debt ceiling into the sky with its addiction to deficit spending. This habit is unsustainable as it is with any business and family. We must live within our means.
With the national debt at $37 trillion, Congress needs a dose of shock treatment because the debt-to-GDP ratio is out of kilter. The debt should never surpass yearly GDP, yet currently it far exceeds it, which jeopardizes economic and national security. The ultimate goal going forward should be border security, a balanced budget, economic growth, several agencies turned over to the states, and paying down the debt.
