It’s time America had a female president
Letters

Editor, Ceres Courier,

The Seven Wonders of the World were primarily built by men and under the direction of men.

1. The Great Wall was built and expanded by emperors like Qin Shi Huang. The labor force largely consisted of soldiers, peasants, and prisoners, who were mostly men.

2. Petra was developed by the Nabataeans. As a patriarchal society, the planning, carving, and construction were directed and carried out by men.

3. Christ the Redeemer was designed by French sculptor Paul Landowski and constructed by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa. The planning, design, and execution were led by men.

4. Machu Picchu was built during the reign of the Inca emperor Pachacuti. Inca society was also male-dominated. Construction would have been organized and executed by men.

5. Chichen Itza, the Mayan city, was constructed under leadership of male rulers and religious leaders.

6. The Roman Colosseum was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian and completed by his son Titus.  Enslaved men primarily carried out the labor.

7. The Taj Mahal was commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan.  Male architects and engineers were in charge, and the labor force was primarily male.

The point? For the first time in history, if Kamala wins, she will join the first Mexican woman president, Claudia Sheinbaum, and mighty North American women will be able to say that things were achieved under a primarily female leadership. As the father of two little girls, I ask myself, why would women strip themselves of the opportunity for real change and a new dawn of women regional leadership and cooperation by voting for Trump?

It is true that the best jokes tell themselves. Here’s one that not too many will appreciate: a convicted sexual abuser and fraud walks into a bar and sees a banker and tells him to run for office, then women help get him there.

Alvaro Franco,

Ceres
