Self’s signs not compliant with fair campaign law
Letters

Editor, Ceres Courier,

Driving through Ceres, it is hard to miss the campaign signs popping up for this year’s election. Yesterday, I noticed a new one on the corner of Mitchell & Roeding for Jess Self. I was genuinely surprised to see her sign there, because Assemblyman Alanis, who she seems to be running against, has had a sign there for weeks alongside mayor candidate Condit.

After taking a closer look at Self’s sign, I noticed that the disclaimer at the bottom of the sign had information that was not for this year’s election, but for 2022. I know that there are laws in place for proper disclosure on campaign advertising, so I find it incredibly frustrating and hypocritical that a person who wants to represent our area as a lawmaker doesn’t have the decency to follow the same laws she’s asking to be trusted to uphold. How can we expect her to effectively represent us when she can’t even get her campaign materials in order?

According to the Fair Political Practices Commission the committee listed on the sign is INACTIVE. I’m not sure if she chose not to change the disclaimer out of laziness, ignorance or both, but if you’re gonna ask for my vote, especially to be a lawmaker, you should make sure you’re following the basic rules.
