The Ceres High varsity boys basketball team edged Sierra 39-30 in a non-league game on Dec. 20 in Manteca.
Brad Muniz scored a team-high 11 points for the Bulldogs, who improved to 8-1 overall. Brett Sayad and Steven Downs added 10 and six points, respectively. Kevin Dupree and Ross Tate had five points apiece.
Michael Elder scored a game-high 13 points for the Timberwolves, who fell to 6-5 overall.
Sierra got within one point, 31-30, late in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs held the Timberwolves scoreless during the final three minutes. Ceres scored eight unanswered points, including three by Muniz.
The Bulldogs maintained an 18-14 lead at the break.
Ceres outscored Sierra 21-16 in the second half. Each team tallied 10 points in the third quarter.
The Bulldogs accounted for 11 of the game's final 17 points.
Ceres made just one 3-pointer in the game.
