Clean sweep for Hawks in track and field

Central Valley High School's varsity boys and girls track and field teams recorded Valley Oak League dual meet victories over Manteca on Wednesday in Ceres.

"It was a good atmosphere," Hawks senior Kunal Jamnadas said. "Everybody was cheering each other on."

Added head coach Mike Reynolds: "We wanted to get our first double win as a team. And we did. I'm very pleased. All of the kids stepped up."

Central Valley's girls won with a score of 83-52.

Latrisha Jordan, Adrianna Mendez, Veronica Haro, Jasveen Brar, Tailorae Levell, Marissa Cabusas, Danny Sandoval, Jessica Martinez, Monika DeLeon, Brooke Davis and Nicole Weese led the way for the Hawks (1-1).

"We're scoring points in everything," Reynolds said. "We have depth."

Jordan swept the 100 hurdles in 16.21 seconds, 300 hurdles (46.84) and 200 (27.34). She also teamed with Sandoval, Cabusas and Brar to win the 4x400 relay (4:39).

The 4x100 relay team of Brar, DeLeon, Sandoval and Levell took first (58.34).

Mendez took first in the 1,600 (6:28) and 3,200 (14:28).

Haro took first in the 800 (3:07), second in the 1,600 (6:48) and third in the 3,200 (16:09).

Brar took first in the long jump (14-2) and second in the 400 (1:08).

Levell took first in the high jump (4-4), and second in the 200 (27.34) and 100 (14.65).

Cabusas took second in the 100 hurdles (18.6) and 300 hurdles (53.14).

Sandoval took second in the high jump (4-2), and third in the 400 (1:11) and 800 (3:10).

Martinez took second in the 3,200 (16:07) and third in the 1,600 (6:56).

DeLeon took second in the pole vault.

Davis took third in the discus (72-8) and shot put (26-0).

Weese took third in the pole vault.

Central Valley' boys improved to 1-1 in the league standings after topping the Buffaloes 70-55.

Jamnadas, Juan Martinez, Rudy Reynoso, Ernesto Plancarte, Tony Marques, Jonathan Berrios, Sean McLeod, Joaquin Casas, Junior Reyes and Robert Morgan paved the way.

"I'm just happy everybody worked as hard as they could," said Kunal, who placed first in the 100 (11.5) and 200 (24.28). He also helped lead the Hawks 4x400 relay team to a second-place finish.

Martinez placed first in the 1,600 (5:26) and 3,200 (12:10).

Reynoso placed first in the 800 (2:24) and pole vault.

Plancarte placed first in the 300 hurdles (49.78), second in the 110 hurdles (21.4) and third in the triple jump (35-3).

Marques placed first in the high jump (5-4) and third in the long jump (18-3).

Berrios placed first in the 110 hurdles (20.96).

McLeod placed first in the shot put (41-11).

Casas placed second in the long jump (19-2) and triple jump (36-3), and third in the 100 (12.4).

Reyes placed second in the pole vault.

Morgan placed second in the high jump (5-2) and third in the 400 (58.59).

Central Valley will host winless Ceres High today at 3:30 p.m.
