Cade Cowell reached a career milestone by scoring his first international senior goal with the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team.

It didn’t take long for Cade Cowell to make an impact while making his sixth appearance with the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team.

The 19-year-old Ceres native scored his first international senior goal within five minutes of stepping on the field as a substitute during the Americans’ 6-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in Group A of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Sunday in North Carolina.

Cowell, a 6-foot-tall forward, helped USA win its group and secure a berth to the quarterfinals.

“Amazing feeling,” he said while being interviewed by a CONCACAF reporter following the game.

“That’s a performance we expect from Cade,” U.S. National Team manager B.J. Callaghan said. “It’s a game we will want to build on.”

Cowell’s goal gave U.S. a 4-0 lead in the 65th minute.

He used his blazing speed to steal a pass, juked Trinidad and Tobago’s goalkeeper, and froze a defender with a hesitation move before blasting a right-footed shot into the back of the net.

Cowell nearly scored a second goal several minutes later when his shot deflected off the left post.

“It’s a dream come true seeing him playing on that stage. It’s everything we ever hoped for and prayed for. He’s very appreciative of the situation. He’s going to get better as he matures, mentally. It’s a process.”

“It’s a dream come true seeing him playing on that stage,” said Debin Cowell, Cade’s father. “It’s everything we ever hoped for and prayed for. He’s very appreciative of the situation. He’s going to get better as he matures, mentally. It’s a process.”

Cowell entered the game as a substitute.

He replaced forward Alejandro Zendejas in the 61st minute.

“It was a pretty open game,” said Cowell, who tallied the assist on teammate Brandon Vazquez’s goal in stoppage time. “It was kind of perfect for me to get subbed in and just make runs in behind.”

Cowell logged playing time in the U.S. National Team’s previous two Gold Cup games.

He made his first Gold Cup start in last Wednesday’s 6-0 rout of St. Kitts and Nevis in Chicago.

Cowell contributed off the bench while making his Gold Cup debut in a 1-1 tie versus Jamaica on June 24 in Chicago.

“The group is flying right now,” he said. “That was our first job—to win the group. We got that done. Now, onto the knockout rounds.”
