The Ceres Sizzle enjoyed success in two different age groups this past weekend.
The 16-and-under travel softball team finished first overall while competing in the 16/18-year-old bracket of the AST June Jamz Tournament.
The four-team event was staged on Saturday and Sunday at Billy Hebert Field in Stockton.
Ceres bounced back after dropping four of six games en route to a second-place finish at the Summer Slam Tournament in Sacramento.
“We played a lot better the second tournament,” head coach Nikole Ferrel said. “We’re happy any time the girls improve.”
The Sizzle posted a 6-0 record.
Ceres outscored its opponents, 54-12.
“We had some good practices leading up to the tournament,” Ferrel said.
The Sizzle routed the Lightning 14-1 in the finals on Sunday.
Ceres bested the Lightning 10-0 in the semifinals and PHBA Panthers 18s 6-4 in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
The Sizzle won all three of their games on Saturday.
Ceres notched victories versus the Lightning (9-5), Panthers (6-2) and SC SWAT Steh/Gillis 16s (9-0).
“Offensively, we only had six strikeouts in six games,” Ferrel said. “Defensively, we were really solid. We limited our mistakes. Our pitchers did a really good job hitting their spots. Everybody contributed to the wins we had.”
The Sizzle DSP 12-and-under travel team took first at the NSA Turlock Father’s Day Classic Tournament, staged June 17-18 at the George Costa Ball Field Complex.
Ceres won all seven of its games.
The Sizzle topped the Clovis Rockets 7-2 in the championship game on Sunday.
Ceres defeated the Valley Kids 10-3 in the semifinals and Oakdale Heat 11-0 in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
The Sizzle collected wins against the Bullets (12-0), Atwater Flight (17-1), Valley Kids (11-0) and California Destroyers (12-0) on Saturday.
