The Ceres Youth Baseball 8-and-under Red All-Stars didn't place at the Empire Tournament last month. They brought home first-place trophies from the Sixth Annual Waterford Tournament, a six-team event, held at Beard Park, July 5-11.
"Our defense was dynamite and our bats finally came alive," said Ceres coach Chris Canatsy.
Ceres scored 66 runs en route to compiling a 5-1 record.
"We allowed just 31 runs in six games," Canatsy said. "That's pretty good for this age group."
Ceres defeated Atwater 13-10 in the championship game Sunday afternoon. The All-Stars led 12-6 heading into the fifth inning.
"We were out for vengeance," Canatsy said. "They beat us (on Saturday) and in Empire."
Ceres topped Empire 10-2 Sunday morning, lost 14-8 to Atwater but routed Waterford 22-1 on Saturday, defeated Oakdale 10-2 on Friday and edged Atwater Little League 3-2 on Tuesday, July 6.
The All-Stars have won 12 of 15 games this summer. They placed first at the Costa Tune-up Tournament.
