Wesley Schwieger, Andrew Cefre, Raj Singh, Nick Serratos and Victor Cruz all won their final home matches while leading Ceres High School's varsity wrestling team to a 36-26 victory over Livingston during Senior Night on Thursday at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.
"It was nice to send them out that way," Bulldogs head coach Jon Nowicki said. "They stepped up big time."
Added Singh: "It's a great feeling. We put our hearts into it."
Ceres High improved to 1-3 in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
The Wolves dropped to 2-2 in duals.
"It's a relief," Cefre said. "We've never started league 0-3. We were down about that. This win makes us feel better."
Cefre, a fourth-year wrestler, edged Christian Moreno 11-9 in overtime during their 135-pound bout. Andrew secured the victory with a takedown in the extra period.
"I'm disappointed because I didn't get the pin," said Cefre, who missed school and practice on Tuesday and Wednesday due to illness. "But the team pulled through and that's all that matters. The seniors showed up tonight."
Schwieger won by pin (0:51) against Izzak Mireles at 119 pounds.
Singh pinned Chec Vue (3:35) at 145 pounds.
Serratos won by decision (13-9) against Eric Contreras at 160 pounds.
Cruz won by forfeit at 285 pounds.

Anthony Cleveland was awarded a forfeit victory at 189 pounds.
