Bulldog, Hawk wrestlers place at Bristow Brawl

Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s girls wrestling programs traveled to Atwater on Dec. 7 to compete at the Bristow Brawl.

The Bulldogs and Hawks had a combined 15 individuals medal at the event.

The top three grapplers in each weight class were rewarded.

“I’m really happy with the way the girls wrestled,” Ceres High head coach Curtis Hulstine said while assessing his team’s overall performance. “They were a lot more aggressive and technical. That was the recipe for success. They did a great job.”

Eight of the Bulldogs’ 16 wrestlers brought home medals from Atwater.

Gabriella Cole placed first in the 100-108-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 3-0 record.

Cole bested Pacheco’s Maria Calva (pin, 0:26), Central Valley’s Lily Schmidt (pin, 0:48) and Escalon’s Yahaira Munoz-Ayala (pin, 0:20).

“She overwhelms her opponents,” Hulstine said.

Jazlyn Cisneros placed first in the 121-126-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 3-0 record.

“She grinds through every single match,” Hulstine said. “She’s very resilient.”

Cisneros bested Serra’s Jiya Panchal (pin, 0:56), Lincoln of Stockton’s Juliana Garcia (pin, 4:05) and Mariposa County’s Lillie Cook (pin, 1:07).

She battled back from a seven-point deficit in the semifinals.

“She (Cisneros) got a reversal and pin to win the match,” Hulstine said.

Dayanna Alvarez placed first in the 139-149-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 3-0 record en route claiming her second title this season.

“I truly believe she should have been a state-qualifier last year,” Hulstine said.

Alvarez bested El Capitan’s Yoanna Morales (pin, 3:25), Livingston’s Kiranpreet Bains (pin, 1:30) and Buhach Colony’s Amy Medina (pin, 0:44).

“She’s doing what she’s supposed to be doing,” Hulstine said. “She’s very aggressive. She really tries to dominate girls.”

Alanize Moreno placed second in the 221-232-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Moreno bested Golden Valley’s Iory Villarreal-Mancera (pin, 0:38) and Atwater’s Vyonnie Chavez Quintero (pin, 0:21).

She lost to Central Valley’s Brianna Espinoza (pin, 1:23).

Aliah Ricaud placed third in the 108-113-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Ricaud bested Livingston’s Michelle Ortega (pin, 0:14) and Pacheco’s Monica Partida (forfeit).

She lost to Merced’s Maya Rodriguez (pin, 1:15).

Abigail Schultz placed third in the 129-136-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Schultz bested Gregori’s Judith Suastegui (pin, 1:02) and Buhach Colony’s Aubrie Marrot (pin, 3:44).

She lost to Lincoln of Stockton’s Evelynn Thea (pin, 1:19).

Elizabeth Boyd placed third in the 155-167-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Boyd bested Gregori’s MaeLynn Holder (pin, 0:58) and Escalon’s Natalie Martinez (pin, 0:22).

She lost to Buhach Colony’s Liliana Manzo (pin, 1:13).

Madeline Schultz placed third in the 171-187-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Schultz bested Buhach Colony’s Bobbie Alston (pin, 0:43) and Livingston’s Aaliya Renfrow (pin, 1:27).

She lost to Merced’s Evelyn Vargas (pin, 2:46).

Seven of the Hawks’ 19 grapplers medaled at the Bristow Brawl.

Giana Breshears placed first in the 130-137-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 3-0 record.

Breshears bested Livingston’s Mariah Ramirez (pin, 1:18), Pitman’s Shyla Volk-Wood (pin, 2:57) and Golden Valley’s Yurehlly Burgos (pin, 2:22).

Brianna Espinoza placed first in the 221-232-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 3-0 record.

Espinoza bested Atwater’s Vyonnie Chavez Quintero (pin, 0:15), Golden Valley’s Iory Villarreal-Mancera (pin, 1:15) and Ceres High’s Alanize Moreno (pin, 1:23).

Evalyn Zambrano placed second in the 137-147-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Zambrano bested Merced’s Reem Amro (pin, 2:27) and Gregori’s Madison Monahan (pin 0:48).

She lost to Buhach Colony’s Joslyn Stevens (pin, 0:55).

Arely Camarena placed second in the 155-167-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Camarena bested Pacheco’s Melaya Soto (decision, 3-0) and Escalon’s Natalie Martinez (pin, 3:56).

She lost to Buhach Colony’s Liliana Manzo (major decision, 12-3).

Lily Schmidt placed third in the 100-108-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Schmidt bested Golden Valley’s Valeria Prado (pin, 2:05) and Central Valley’s Valeria Garcia (pin, 0:20).

She lost to Ceres High’s Gabriella Cole (pin, 0:48).

Tarnjot Kaur placed third in the 116-123-pound weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Kaur bested Livingston’s Blasa Loza (pin, 2:47) and Pacheco’s Paola Martinez (forfeit).

She lost to Lincoln of Stockton’s Madison Muok (major decision, 17-9).

Angela Alvarado placed third in the 150-157-weight bracket.

She posted a 2-1 record.

Alvarado bested Atwater’s Natayla Cruz (pin, 2:46) and Pacheco’s Yasmin Jimenez (forfeit).

She lost to Mariposa County’s Sophie Forga (pin, 2:22).
