Ceres High’s girls basketball team had a productive week.

The Bulldogs moved to 9-2 overall after placing second at the Livingston Tournament and knocking off the crosstown-rival Central Valley Hawks.

Ceres High had just six wins all of last season.

“I’m proud of the girls,” head coach Megan McGill said. “All of them put in a lot of work this summer to get better. And it’s paying off.”

The Bulldogs won two of three games at the Livingston Tournament.

Ceres High lost 53-25 to Sierra in the title game on Saturday.

Hailey Tsurui scored a team-high 12 points for the Bulldogs.

Arrayah Stallworth and Sovannary Carter tallied five and four points, respectively.

Jolissa Guillory and Yareli Jimenez both contributed two points.

Ceres High topped host Livingston 28-22 in the semifinals on Friday.

Stallworth scored a team-high 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Tsurui, Jolissa Guillory and Valeria Arroyo tallied six, five and three points, respectively.

Ceres High opened the tourney with a 33-32 victory over Stoneridge Christian on Thursday.

Stallworth scored a team-high 12 points for the Bulldogs.

Carter tallied eight points.

Ceres High held on for a 48-40 win against visiting Central Valley on Dec. 11 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

“To me, it’s just another win,” McGill said. “But I know it means a lot to the girls.”

Sophomores Sovannary Carter and Arrayah Stallworth led the Bulldogs.

Carter tallied 18 points, eight rebounds, three steals, two blocks and one assist.

Stallworth had 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals.

Tsurui added nine points, two rebounds and one steal.

Marion Dennison scored a team-high 15 points for the Hawks.

Julyanna Valencia, Jannet Valencia and Emily Mariani tallied nine, eight and four points, respectively.

Ceres High led 22-19 at intermission.

The Bulldogs outscored the Hawks 26-21 during the second half.

Central Valley closed out the week with back-to-back losses.

The Hawks dropped to 1-9 overall after falling 39-30 to Pacheco on Dec. 14 in Los Banos.

Jannet Valencia tallied a team-high 12 points.

Central Valley lost 44-30 at Bear Creek on Dec. 12.

Dennison totaled a team-high nine points.


BOYS RESULTS

Central Valley’s boys basketball team compiled 1-3 record while playing four non-conference games in a seven-day span.

Ceres High’s boys basketball squad won one of two contests during preseason action.

Central Valley dropped to 3-7 overall after losing 59-36 to Beyer on Dec. 15 in Ceres.

Sahibjot Deal led the Hawks with 12 points, nine rebounds and one block.

Los Banos held on for a 56-48 victory over Central Valley on Dec. 13 in Ceres.

Bryan Rodriguez led the Hawks with 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist.

Damian Flores tallied 12 points, one rebound, one assist and one steal.

Robbie Singh had nine points, five rebounds, three assists and one steal.

East Union coasted to a 69-45 win against Central Valley on Dec. 12 in Ceres.

Jellmar Mata led the Hawks with 17 points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Deal had 13 points, seven rebounds, five blocks, two steals and one assist.

Central Valley topped Riverbank 66-35 on Dec. 9 in Ceres.

Deal led the Hawks with 16 points, eight rebounds, one assist and one block.

Singh had 10 points, four rebounds and two steals.

Rodriguez had 10 points and four rebounds.

Ceres High dropped to 5-4 overall after losing 82-42 to Escalon on Dec. 14 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

Gilbert Nuno led the Bulldogs with 17 points, five rebounds and one steal.

Ceres High bested Hilmar 71-44 on Dec. 12 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

Carey Mastin led the Bulldogs with 15 points, seven assists, two steals and one rebound.

Gurman Dhaliwal had 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and one block.

Manuel Ortega had nine points, six rebounds, four steals and one assist.
