Ceres High’s girls wrestling program had a strong showing at its home tournament.

The Bulldogs totaled 122.5 points en route to a second-place finish at the Third Annual Super Girl Showdown, which was staged on Dec. 20 at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.

Livingston (168) won the team title.

Hayward (97) took third.

Crosstown-rival Central Valley (14) placed 14th.

“That’s the best we’ve done at our home tournament,” Ceres High head coach Curtis Hulstine said. “It’s a great accomplishment for the team. It shows how we’ve been building our program these last few years. It shows progress.”

Ceres High had a program-record 13 grapplers claim hardware at the 2024 Super Girl Showdown as the top-six finishers in each weight class were recognized.

Central Valley’s lone competitor medaled.

“Everyone wrestled tough,” Hulstine said.

Madeline Schultz, Alanize Moreno, Abigail Schultz, Mezmeriah Zuniga, Dayanna Alvarez, Elizabeth Boyd, Isabella Nungaray, Gabriella Cole, Zyla Leah-Lemus, Galilea Ramirez, Abrianna Bautista, Jazlyn Cisneros and Eva Onsurez led the Bulldogs.

Madeline Schultz placed first with a 2-0 record in the 190-pound.

She was awarded a cape, medal and shirt.

“It’s another goal of many she’s going to accomplish this year,” Hulstine said.

Madeline Schultz beat Livingston’s Aaliyah Renfrow (pin, 1:03) and Orestimba’s Abigail Fulton (pin, 1:02).

“She’s wrestling like a champion right now,” Hulstine said.

She beat Patterson’s Alexa Rangel (pin, 0:51), Sanger’s Alysha Zarate (technical fall, 16-0) and Livingston’s Arianna Mujca (pin, 4:27).
