Central Valley’s boys basketball program topped Johansen and Livingston while competing at full-strength for the first time this season this past week.
Ceres High beat Pacheco and lost to Grace Davis.
“We had some guys sick and out of town,” Hawks’ leader Mike Rodriguez stated. “It was good to get everybody back. It gives us more depth. It makes our bench stronger. We’re faster and more athletic.”
Central Valley improved to 9-10 overall and 3-2 in Western Athletic Conference play after holding on for a 64-56 win over Johansen Friday evening in Ceres.
The Hawks climbed to fourth place in the league standings.
Jace Mclennon led Central Valley with 16 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one block.
Andre Flores added 11 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Silas Rodriguez had 10 points, five rebounds, three steals and one assist.
Central Valley edged host Livingston 65-61 on Jan. 15.
Emmanuel Carranza led the Hawks with 15 points, eight rebounds, three blocks and one steal.
Flores had 14 points, six rebounds and five steals.
Mclennon had 14 points, three steals and two steals.
Ceres High dropped to 7-12 overall and sixth place in the WAC standings with a 2-3 record after falling 78-55 at Grace Davis on Friday.
Manuel Ortega paced the Bulldogs with 32 points, two rebounds, two blocks, two steals and one assist.
Jaylen Pettigrew added 10 points, two steals, one rebound and one assist.
Tayden Galton had nine points, four assists and one steal.

Ortega paced the Bulldogs with 21 points, seven rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Treyvon Martinez had 10 points, 10 rebounds, six blocks and three steals.
Cashton Almeida had nine points, four rebounds and one block.
Central Valley will play host to Ceres High this Friday at 7:30 p.m.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Ceres High’s girls basketball team won one of two games against Western Athletic Conference opponents last week.
Central Valley earned its first league victory of the season.
The Bulldogs improved to 14-5 overall and 3-2 in the WAC with a 65-55 win against the Grace Davis Spartans on Thursday at Phil de la Porte Gymnasium.
Lilly Staggs led fourth-place Ceres High with 20 points, three rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block.
Arrayah Stallworth had 12 points, seven rebounds, five assists, five steals and two blocks.
Savannah Leifried had 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
Ceres High lost 54-50 to Pacheco on Jan. 14 in Los Banos.
Staggs led the Bulldogs with 24 points, five steals, two assists and one rebound.
Stallworth had eight points, nine rebounds, five steals, one assist and one block.
Bri Tsurui had eight points.
Central Valley snapped a six-game losing streak with a 51-44 win over Johansen on Thursday in Modesto.
The seventh-place Hawks improved to 7-12 overall and 1-4 in the WAC standings.
Marion Dennison and Airieana Martinez led Central Valley with 12 points apiece.
Bella Delatorre and Emily Mariani both tallied 10 points.
Julyanna Valencia added sevent points.
Central Valley lost 61-34 to Livingston on Jan. 14 in Ceres.
Emily Mariani led the Hawks with nine points.
Martinez, Valencia and Alayah Villa all contributed five points.
Central Valley will play host to Ceres High this Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
