Central Valley’s girls soccer program extended its unbeaten streak versus crosstown-rival Ceres High to five games last month.

The host Hawks rolled to an 8-1 win over the Bulldogs in non-conference play on Nov. 27.

“It’s the beginning of the season,” Central Valley head coach Miguel Larranaga said. “I wasn’t sure which way the game would go. Everything went our way from the first minute.”

“We take it as a learning lesson,” Ceres High leader Rudy Jimenez said. “I’m trying to get them to work together as one. We need to communicate better. That’s something that we discussed.”

Four different players scored for the Hawks, including Aaralyn Jauregui, Isabella Gudino, Daniela Rodriguez and Mia Mendoza.

“Every girl played well. The opportunities we had, we put them all in. We controlled the game. I’m happy.”

“Every girl played well,” Larranaga said. “The opportunities we had, we put them all in. We controlled the game. I’m happy.”

Jauregui, a freshman, led Central Valley with three goals.

“I coach her at the competitive level,” Larranaga said. “I know her well. She’s an amazing player. She’s going to have a great season.”

Gudino, a senior, collected two goals and three assists.

“She’s one of our leaders,” Larranaga said.

Rodriguez tallied two goals.

Mendoza had one goal.

Marcella Larranaga had one assist.

Goalkeeper Magnolia Tavison made five saves.

Arianna Diaz accounted for the Bulldogs’ lone goal.

Ceres High goalie Lillian Blevins totaled seven saves.

The Hawks dominated the game from start to finish.

“I didn’t know what I was walking into,” said Jimenez, Ceres High’s new head coach. “It was an eye-opener. Central Valley has a good team. Our girls didn’t give up.”

“I see a lot more potential than they’re showing right now,” he added. “They’ll get there. I believe in the girls.”

Central Valley has accumulated four wins and one tie against Ceres High since 2020.

The Hawks topped the Bulldogs 4-1 in 2022 and 5-2 in 2021.

Central Valley prevailed 3-1 and battled to a scoreless tie versus Ceres High in 2020.

The Bulldogs shut out the Hawks 2-0 in 2019.

“The crosstown game is very special,” Miguel Larranaga said. “The players know each other. It’s a game you don’t want to lose.”

Hawks edge Dawgs

Central Valley’s junior varsity girls soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory while battling visiting Ceres High during last month’s crosstown matchup.

“They are our rival school,” Hawks’ standout Bella Ayala said. “It’s pretty nice to get the win.”

Ayala’s first-half goal proved to be the difference in the game.

She scored from 18 yards out.

“Honestly, it wasn’t just me,” she said. “It was teamwork.”
