Experience and depth have helped Central Valley’s varsity girls tennis team ascend to the top of the Central California Conference standings.

The Hawks remained in a tie for first place in the CCC with El Capitan after collecting victories against Patterson and Merced last week.

Central Valley improved to 6-1 following Thursday’s 9-0 shutout of host Patterson.

The Hawks swept all six singles and three doubles matches.

Lupe Becerra defeated Marissa Tellas 6-1, 6-0 in No. 1 singles play.

GIanna Arce defeated Jovanna Camberos 6-2, 6-2 in No. 2 singles play.

Sunaina Dhillon defeated Jasmine Perez 7-5, 6-1 in No. 3 singles play.

Mixtly Vega defeated Aalyiah McDonald 6-4, 6-1 in No. 4 singles play.

Elisabeth Valdez defeated Jocelyn Gomez 6-1, 6-1 in No. 5 singles play.

Bandna Bhatti defeated Morgan Lopez 6-3, 6-1 in No. 6 singles play.

Daniela Yepez and Virginia Moore defeated Manpreet Kaur and Lois Lopez 6-2, 6-1 in No. 1 doubles play.

Christina Hermenegildo and Lizbeth Martinez defeated Freshta Aziz and Ariana Camacho 6-2, 6-1 in No. 2 doubles play.

Sabina Dhillon and Priscilla Sanchez defeated Katherine Toledo and Melyza Guzman 4-6, 6-4, 10-7 in No. 3 doubles play.

“We won like we were supposed to,” Rodriguez said. “It was a solid effort.”

Central Valley knocked Merced into second place with a 6-3 win on Sept. 18 in Ceres.

“They’re a quality opponent,” Rodriguez said. “They’ve had similar scores against common opponents. We were fortunate enough to get the win.”

The Hawks won all three doubles and three of six singles matches.

Yepez and Moore defeated Denise Papilota and Zoe Hayes 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles play.

Martinez and Hermenegildo defeated Laura Ness and Megan Workman 6-1, 7-6 (7-0) in No. 2 doubles play.

Sanchez and Sabina Dhillon defeated Emily Featherston and Sere Burelson 2-6, 7-5, 13-11 in No. 3 doubles play.

Becerra defeated Ano Chuma 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 singles play.

Valdez defeated Katelyn Huie 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles play.

Bhatti defeated Sarah Pagano 6-3, 6-2 in No. 6 singles play.

Central Valley will face host El Capitan this Thursday.

The Hawks lost 6-3 to the Gauchos on Sept. 4. 

“The girls know it’s going to be a competitive match,” Rodriguez said. “Last time, two out of the three doubles went three sets.”
