Central Valley’s girls wrestling program placed first while competing at the Central California Conference Championships on Saturday in Ceres.

Central Valley’s girls wrestling program completed its run of perfection versus Central California Conference competition this past week.

The Hawks finished in first place while hosting the CCC Championships on Saturday.

Central Valley earned 134 points while finishing ahead of Merced (94), Atwater (92), Buhach Colony (84), Patterson (69), Golden Valley (64) and El Capitan (47).

The Hawks posted a 6-0 record during the CCC dual-meet season.

“They all worked so hard this season and we did our best to stay healthy so we would have as full of a roster as possible,” head coach Brandy Cordova said. “Considering our 14-girl roster had 11 wrestlers who have never wrestled before, I think they did an amazing job.”

“Wrestling isn’t an easy sport to just come in and do,” she added. “It takes time, effort and commitment for four-and-a-half months and none of them gave up. They would practice and wrestle no matter how often their bodies tried to convince them it was too hard.”

Central Valley had two individual champions at the CCC Finals.

Julia Roton finished first with a 1-0 record in the 191-pound weight bracket.
