Central Valley's freshman football team continued its run of perfection this past week.
The Hawks improved to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Western Athletic Conference after defeating Lathrop 24-12 last Thursday on the road.
With the win, first-place Central Valley clinched at least a share of the WAC title.
The Spartans (7-2, 4-2) dropped to third place in the league standings.
"It's always been a goal of ours to win the WAC championship," Hawks' head coach Javier Fregoso said. "The kids earned it. They never slacked off."
Sergio Torres-Zuniga led Central Valley's offense as he rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries.
Ryder Davis ran for 8 yards and one touchdown on two carries.
Robert Soriano completed 2 of 3 passes for 75 yards.
Julian Perez threw for 65 yards while completing 4 of 4 pass attempts.
Diego Quintanilla caught five passes for 120 yards.
Jordan Avila totaled 20 yards on two receptions.
Avian Sanchez led the Hawks' defense with four tackles and one forced fumble.
Adrian Delahoya had six tackles.
Davis had five tackles.
Avila and Abel Huerta both had four tackles.
"Overall, we played well," Fregoso said while assessing his team's performance. "It was a battle. We got tested early."
Central Valley led 16-6 at the break.
The Hawks outscored the Spartans 8-6 during the second half.
Central Valley competed shorthanded on offense as running backs Jeremiah Gates and Manuel Iniguez did not contribute due to injuries.
Torres-Zuniga got most of the carries.
"Our running game opened up our passing game," Fregoso said.
Central Valley will close out the season this Thursday.
The Hawks will face the crosstown-rival Bulldogs at Ceres High.
Kickoff slated for 6 p.m.
"It's a game everybody looks forward to every season," Fregoso said. "They're all friends. It's bragging rights for a year. We have a chance to finish the season undefeated. Everybody is going to give their best effort. We expect a competitive game from Ceres. We just got to stay focused."
Dawgs 42, Patriots 0
Ceres High's freshman football team rolled to a 42-0 victory versus Beyer on Thursday at CUSD Stadium.
The Bulldogs improved to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the WAC standings.
Ceres High has won three of its last five games.
Bulldog quarterback Alijah Jackson completed 8 of 13 passes for 84 yards with two touchdowns against the Patriots.
He also had one rushing score.
Jonathan Marquez caught four passes for 59 yards and two touchdowns.
Michael King ran for 53 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries.
Jesus Alejandro and Tallan Pittman had rushing TDs of 8 and 3 yards, respectively.
David Neito gained 31 yards on nine carries.
