Members of Ceres High’s and Central Valley’s girls wrestling programs experienced success while competing at the Doug Severe Classic and Livingston Tournament, respectively, on Dec. 14.

“The girls all did an amazing job,” Bulldogs’ head coach Curtis Hulstine said. “They were very aggressive and dominant. We had most pins for the least amount of time. We also had most total match points as a team.”

Ceres High had nine grapplers medals at Beyer High as the top four finishers in each weight class were rewarded.

Madeline Schultz, Elizabeth Boyd, Dayonna Alvarez and Jazlyn Cisneros won individual titles.

Abigail Schultz, Gabriela Cole and Abrianna Bautista all placed second.

Jadasa Haro and Galileah Ramirez finished third and fourth, respectively.

Central Valley’s Giana Breshears, Arely Camarena and Tarnjot Kaur all claimed medals as the top three placers in each weight division were honored.

Breshears and Camarena both won individual titles.

Kaur placed second.

“I was happy with the results of Giana, Arely and Tarnjot,” Hawks’ head coach Brandy Cordova said.

Madeline Schultz posted a 2-0 record in the 190-pound weight class.

She collected a pair of wins against Downey’s Artyanna Valdivia.

She pinned Valdivia twice (2:59, 3:00).

Alvarez posted a 3-0 record at 145 pounds.

She topped Enochs’ Isabella Lloyd (pin, 1:32), Gregori’s Kyra Tumarello (pin, 1:58) and Mountain House’s Shalia Bhatia (pin, 2:41).

She lost to Grace Davis’ Dazire Knapps (pin, 0:58) and Edison’s Andrea Sanut (pin, 1:28).

She topped Turlock’s Karley Wool (pin, 1:27), Buhach Colony’s Joslyn Hoffman (decision, 9-2) and Hilmar’s Nora Jorge (decision, 11-6).

“Giana continues to wrestle well,” Cordova said. “You can see the determination. She’s added to her arsenal with every tournament. Being a two-time, state-qualifier puts a target on your back.”

Camarena posted a 3-0 record at 153-164 pounds.

She topped Atwater’s Emily Stone (technical fall, 15-0) Denair’s Thomas Brianna (major decision, 12-0) and Buhach Colony’s Iris Reyes (decision, 9-3).

“She (Camarena) works hard in the wrestling room,” Cordova said. “She’s hyper-focused trying to learn all the moves that are being taught.”

She topped Livingston’s Blasa Loza (pin, 0:56) and Turlock’s Haylee Whiting (pin, 1:22).

She missed part of last season after having her appendix removed.

“She’s coming back from a season-ending illness,” Cordova said. “She’s been working hard to get back the strength and conditioning she lost from being out last year.”
