Central Valley’s varsity girls wrestling program competed at a pair of tournaments in a two-day span earlier this month.
The Hawks totaled 39 points while finishing in eighth-place at the Second Annual Morning Star Invitational on Jan. 18 in Los Banos.
Tokay (217 points), Atwater (187) and Los Banos (144.5) took first, second and third, respectively.
The tournament featured 15 teams.
Central Valley had two individual placers.
Angelina Sanchez and Sammy Espinoza both brought home second-place medals.
Sanchez compiled a 2-1 record in the 191-pound weight division.
She beat Ripon’s Vivian Parsons (pin, 1:27) and Tokay’s Maricela Isordia (pin, 3:41).
Espinoza won one of her two matches at 237 pounds.
She beat Edison’s Amy Cedano (pin, 2:00).
Isabella Pelayo and Julia Roton also contributed to the Hawks’ team point total.
Pelayo won one of her three matches at 133 pounds.
She beat Ripon’s Annie Wood (pin, 3:12).
Roton won one of her two matches at 172 pounds.
She beat Pacheco’s Lina Jimenez (pin, 0:26) at 172 pounds.
Central Valley’s Areyus Lundeen (118s, 0-2), Mia Mendoza (128s, 0-2), Savannah Gomez (162s, 0-2) and Isabella Juarez (172s, 0-2) competed at the Morning Star Invitational as well.
Central Valley finished third overall in a field of 20 at the First Annual Lady Chukchansi Invitational on Jan. 17 at Madera South High School.
Espinoza placed second at 238 pounds.
She lost by pin (2:00) to Atwater’s Yisela Vera-Rojas in the finals at 238 pounds.
Sanchez placed second at 192 pounds.
She lost by pin (0:42) to Kerman’s Cassandra Loaeza in the finals.
Carla Martinez placed second at 163 pounds.
She lost by pin (3:19) to Orange Cove’s Clarissa Alvarez in the finals.
Aryanna Jimenez pinned Mendota’s Josefina Jimenez (4:53) for third place at 124 pounds.
Pelayo placed fourth at 134 pounds.
She lost by decision (11-9) to Ripon’s Annie Wood during the third-place match.
Abigail Garcia placed fourth at 140 pounds.
She lost by pin (1:24) to Atwater’s Natalie Vasquez during the third-place match.
Roton topped Atwater’s Melanie Arias by pin (5:35) for sixth place at 173 pounds.
