Central Valley High School’s varsity swim program challenged host Patterson last week.
“It was pretty competitive,” Hawks head coach Sarah Willems said.
Central Valley’s boys squad dropped to 0-1 in the Western Athletic Conference dual-meet standings following Friday’s 57-46 loss to the Tigers.
“It’s hard (to compete as a team) because we don’t have the numbers,” Willems said. “We only brought five boys with us. They had eight. It is what it is.”
Cesar Armas placed swept the 200 free and 100 breast.
Vince Castaneda placed first in the 50 free.
Logan Kenworthy placed first in the 100 back.
Christian Oliver placed second in the 100 free and fourth in the 50 free.
Ryan Miceli placed third in the 50 free.
Nathan Curry placed third in the 100 free.
Central Valley’s 200 medley relay team of Kenworthy, Armas, Castaneda and Miceli placed first.

The Hawks trailed 49-46 in team scoring heading into the dual meet’s final event.
Patterson earned eight points for taking first in the 400 free relay.
Central Valley didn’t field a 400-free relay team.
“The kids can only swim so many events,” Willems said.
Central Valley’s girls squad (0-1) suffered an 88-67 loss.
“Patterson has comparable numbers to us,” Willems said.
Leilani Ortiz swept the 50 free and 100 breast.
Lisa Serna placed first in the 100 free and 100 back.
Leticia Sandoval placed second in the 50 free.
Brenda Romo placed third in the 200 free.
Nina Kees placed third in the 500 free.
Angela Mantineo placed third in the 100 free and fourth in the 200 free.
Lauren Segmiller placed fourth in the 100 free.
Brianna Garcia placed fifth in the 50 free.

“The new girls got some experience,” Willems said.
Central Valley will compete at Pacheco today.
