Central Valley routs Livingston, loses to powerhouse Los Banos

Central Valley's varsity girls tennis team beat Livingston and lost to Los Banos during the opening week of Western Athletic Conference play.

The visiting Hawks dominated the Wolves of Livingston, 8-1, on Sept. 19.

"We actually hit the ball better in the Los Banos match," Central Valley head coach Mike Rodriguez said. "We just have more experience and are deeper than Livingston."

Central Valley won five of six singles and all three doubles matches against Livingston.

Guadalupe Becerra defeated Gabriela Ramirez 6-2, 6-2 in No. 1 singles play.

Gianna Arce defeated Erica Lomeli 6-4, 6-3 in No. 2 singles play.
Adriana Escobedo defeated Migdalya Pacheco 6-2, 6-2 in No. 3 singles play.

Suinana Dhillon defeated Esmeralda Ramos 6-4, 6-2 in No. 4 singles play.

Mixtly Vega lost 6-2, 6-2 to Viridiana Cerda in No. 5 singles play.

Elisabeth Valdez defeated Berenice Arias 6-2, 7-6 (7-3) in No. 6 singles play.

Daniela Yepez and Nayeli Castellanos defeated Jiselle Trujillo and Ariana Walker 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles play.

Lizbeth Martinez and Christina Hermenegildo defeated Diana Rocha and Monica Maldonado 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 doubles play.

Jocelyn Rodriguez and Virginia Moore defeated Jennifer Garcia and Stefanie Ramos 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 doubles play.

The Hawks suffered a 7-2 loss while competing against the reigning WAC-champion Tigers of Los Banos on Thursday in Ceres.

"Everyone knows Los Banos is the best," coach Rodriguez said. "They've won 95 matches in a row."

Central Valley won two of three doubles matches versus Los Banos.

"I'm not really surprised," Mike Rodriguez said. "Our doubles are our strength. They work well together. They have experience."

Yepez and Castellanos defeated Zoe Seabock and Bridget Lopez 6-7 (1-7), 6-1, 11-9 in No. 1 doubles play.

Rodriguez and Moore defeated Ally Watkins and Hannah Mevi 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 doubles play.

Martinez and Hermenegildo lost 6-2, 6-2 to Sarah White and Corie Falaschi in No. 2 doubles play.

The Tigers swept all six singles matches.

Becerra lost 6-2, 6-1 to Shirley Liu in No. 1 singles play.

Arce lost 6-0, 6-1 to Adriana Moreno in No. 2 singles play.

Escobedo lost 6-1, 6-0 to Haley Ballez in No. 3 singles play.

Dhillon lost 6-1, 6-4 to Kierstyn Cotta in No. 4 singles play.

Vega lost 6-0, 6-0 to Kiara Azevedo in No. 5 singles play.

Valdez lost 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 to Chloe Emerson in No. 6 singles play.

"Los Banos has good athletes every year," coach Rodriguez said. "They're well-coached. We always go in with the goal of being aggressive. They like to stay back on the baseline and rally."

Central Valley will play at Patterson this Thursday.

The WAC contest will get underway at 3 p.m.
