Dawgs open WAC dual season with wins versus Hawks
Sergio Torres and Ceres High’s boys track
Sergio Torres and Ceres High’s boys track and field team competed against Frankie Klino and Central Valley on March 12. The host Bulldogs dominated the crosstown dual, 111-15.

History was made this past month when Ceres High’s track and field program hosted a dual meet at its newly-renovated stadium for the first time.

The Bulldogs and crosstown-rival Central Valley Hawks faced off during the opening week of the Western Athletic Conference season.

Running events were staged on Ceres High’s all-weather track.

“It was awesome,” Ceres High head coach Brett Johnson said. “It was our first official meet there. We’re still getting used to everything.”

“The track is perfect,” Central Valley leader Michael Mrgudic stated. “It’s an all-weather track. It was important for that day because of the weather.”

The Bulldogs swept the Hawks on March 12 at CUSD Stadium.

“Being the first meet of the season, you don’t know what everybody else has and what you have,” Johnson said. “You’re trying to figure things out and put people in the right places. We ran, jumped and threw well.”

“Our kids did well,” Mrgudic stated. “They put in a good effort. We had a lot of PRs (personal records) even though it was rainy and windy.”

“We had a good meet against our crosstown rival,” Johnson added. “It was exciting to see us compete like that with the way the weather was. It was rainy and windy. We had to postpone a few events.”
