The Ceres Blaze 8-and-under travel baseball team brought home hardware from the Bel Passi All-Star Tournament.

Blaze players were presented silver rings after taking second at the four-team event, staged June 24-25, in Modesto.

“Overall, I’m super happy with the performance,” Ceres head coach Ralph Valencia said. “They played hard and competed. I’m really proud of them.”

The Blaze compiled a 2-2 record.

Second-seeded Ceres lost 9-1 to MVP Hustle of Concord in the championship game on June 25.

“We had a lot of opportunities to make the game close,” Valencia said. “We left a lot of runners on base. We really couldn’t get a timely hit.”

Ceres defeated the third-seeded Bel Passi All-Stars 12-6 in the semifinals on June 25.

“They played us tough,” Valencia said. “We got some big hits late to run away with it.”

Jameson Murray accounted for three of the Blaze’s 10 hits.

Adrian Oliveros was Ceres’ starting pitcher.

He had two strikeouts.

The Blaze won one of two games in pool play.

Ceres scored five runs in the fourth inning en route to posting an 8-2 win over Bel Passi on June 24.

Oliveros allowed no runs and no hits with three strikeouts and no walks while starring at pitcher.

Jax Moring and Santiago Pena led the way on offense with two hits apiece.

The Blaze opened the tournament with a 7-1 loss to MVP Hustle on June 24.

Ceres has competed in three tournaments this summer.

The Blaze finished third at the Memorial Classic in Irvine and did not place at the TPR Tournament in Modesto.

Ceres has 11 players on its roster, including Murray, Oliveros, Moring, Pena, Abel Valencia, Daniel Guevara, Daniel Perez, Kevin Robles, Michael Welsh, Nathaniel Gomes and Nolan Stamper.

“We’ve played over 40 games from spring to summer,” coach Valencia said. “They’ve all shown so much improvement.”
